Semester Research & Photomontge

My research topic in Motion Graphics 1, dealt with the term camouflage. After, revisiting the word list of metaphors, I wanted
to find some way of reappropiating this idea. I thought about how camouflage is a fictional depiction, concealing reality. My
final project for that course was “Camouflaged Beauty,” a piece that took a step-by-step approach, as to what is natural vs. unnatural. I layered make-up onto my face, becoming a fictional being. Using my childhood instinct, I would like to discover fictional cultural traditions; we surround ourselves with in today’s society.

A fiction is described as an imaginative form of storytelling, usually including a plot, setting, theme, and characters. This expressive body of culture exists in several forms: novels, short stories, fables, fairy tales, plays, and poems. Fictions are often perpetuated by parents out of traditions such as Santa Claus or to instill beliefs and values. My goal for this semester is to embark on a journey of defining characteristic of humanity, by creating fictions as an aspect of human culture. By telling stories that a culture believes to be true, I will enhance this interpretation of these events by creating humorous motion fictions.

My first project is a photomontage, in which I collected several images that relate to ideas I have for the semester. This montage has a mass quantity of holiday related themes such as Halloween, Christmas, Easter, and the Tooth Fairy. This assignment was a review of the transformation properties within After Effects. Illustrating the direction my research will focus on for this semester, I wanted to explore abstractional, informal techniques of creating art.

Pretty interesting - I like the santa-spiderman and the gothic house.

I didn't your idea in the video until reading your write-up. Feel like maybe the images need to be higher quality?

funny video! I am bot exactly sure abot the whole spiderman thing though. Concept went a little out to left feild once he came into the shot. Transitions fairly smooth, good work.

- Your theme is unclear, looking more like a simple ad for Halloween and Christmas. Doesn't support a theme.

- Many images are pixelated and not properly sized to scale.

- Hard edges break the illusion, such as the door at the introduction and the small pictures in the house.

I think you need to push your concepts a bit, but that could be said about anyone really. I dig the beginning with the house the pictures appearing in the doorway. The spiderman at the end made me laugh a little bit, I think it was the randomness of it.

the image at nine seconds into your video is absolutely beautiful. I would keep that frame in mind while you expand on your topic for the semester.

you say that you would like to " tell stories" that a culture believes.....i think you are showing imagery that we see during halloween, but i cannot distinguish a story line. Also, to show camouflage more, i would of liked to of seen children in costumes.
